Alma Stopped By One of Nation's Toughest 69-46

ALMA, Mich. - Alma women's basketball fell to 7-8 on the season and 3-5 in the league with a 69-46 loss to Hope College on Wednesday evening.

Hope had just one scorer in double figures as Jordyn Boles scored 16 to lead the Flying Dutch, but rotated in 10 players who saw at least 10 minutes of action.

For the Scots, Abigail Way (Fowlerville) led with 13 points and was the only Scot in double figures. The Scots shot just 26 percent from the field and were limited to eight percent shooting from three-point range, though Hope mustered just 36 percent shooting and 17 percent from three point range.

Captain Ashley Matuzak (Saginaw/Nouvel) added nine points and six boards in limited action as she fouled out with nearly nine minutes remaining in the contest, turning the ball over six times.

The Flying Dutch forced 24 Alma turnovers on the night with just 18 of their own.

Neither team drained a trey throughout the entire first half and Alma got just oneĀ - the first of the game and coming from Courtney Lusk (Michigan Center) who ended the night with six points and five turnovers along with four rebounds.

Alma takes a break this weekend from action and returns to the court Jan. 24 as it continues its homestand, hosting Saint Mary's College at 6 p.m.

With three MIAA titles, five NCAA Tournament berths and one national championship under his belt, Goffnett is one of the most accomplished coaches in the nation.

Charlie Goffnett began coaching the women's golf team in 1990. As head coach, he has established a competitive program that is always on or near the top of the MIAA standings. In 1997, the Scots captured their third MIAA title under Goffnett's guidance.
