Alma Picks Up Second Straight MIAA Victory With 73-57 Win at Tri-State

ANGOLA, Ind. - Alma College picked up its second MIAA win in three days with a 73-57 victory on the road at Tri-State Thursday evening. Alma improves to 6-5 on the season and 2-2 in MIAA action.

The Scots were led by Ashley Matuzak (Saginaw/Nouvel) with 18 points and seven rebounds while Heather Keenan (Charlotte) scored 15 and Abby Way (Fowlerville) turned in 11 rebounds to go with her four points.

Courtney Lusk (Michigan Center) turned in another well-rounded performance with four steals, three blocks, eight points and four rebounds.

The Scots return to action Saturday when they host Kalamazoo College at 3 p.m.

 

Alma is one of seven Michigan colleges and universities to hold membership in the Omicron Delta Kappa Society, the national leadership society that recognizes and encourages superior scholarship, leadership and exemplary character. The College also has 19 other national departmental honor societies.

One of the top Division III coaches in the nation, Charlie Goffnett has built the Alma women's basketball program into a national powerhouse. With three MIAA titles, five NCAA Tournament berths and one national championship under his belt, Goffnett is one of the most accomplished coaches in the nation.

Charlie Goffnett began coaching the women's golf team in 1990. As head coach, he has established a competitive program that is always on or near the top of the MIAA standings. In 1997, the Scots captured their third MIAA title under Goffnett's guidance.
