Women's Basketball

Scots drop MIAA Conference tilt to Saint Mary's, 72-60.

ALMA, Mich.-  A slow first half for the Scots sets the tone in the Scots MIAA opener.  Alma shot just 6-of-24 in the first half and dug themselves a 13 point halftime deficit that they could not recover from.  For the game Alma shot just 38% from the floor, and committed 19 turnovers on the game.

Ashley Matuzak (Saginaw/Nouvel Catholic) led the Socts with 27 points and 12 rebounds.  Abigail Way added 12 points and six assists, and Megan Hoblet contributed five boards and four assists off the bench.

The loss evens up Alma's record at 3-3 (0-1).  The Maroon and Cream return to action when they travel to Grand Rapids on December 16th to take on Calvin in an MIAA contest.  Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.

Charlie Goffnett

One of the top Division III coaches in the nation, Charlie Goffnett has built the Alma women's basketball program into a national powerhouse. With three MIAA titles, five NCAA Tournament berths and one national championship under his belt, Goffnett is one of the most accomplished coaches in the nation.

Charlie Goffnett began coaching the women's golf team in 1990. As head coach, he has established a competitive program that is always on or near the top of the MIAA standings. In 1997, the Scots captured their third MIAA title under Goffnett's guidance.
