Scots Pick Up Second-Straight Win Against Hornets

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Alma College women's basketball team defeated Kalamazoo College this afternoon, 75-55 to move to 7-5 overall and 2-3 in the MIAA. Ashley Borcherding (Millington) led the Scots - and all scorers - with 25 points while Katey Peacock (Gowen/Greenville) went for 18 and Darcie Philp (Ubly) added 16 in the victory.

The Scots shot nearly 50 percent from the field and led by 14 at halftime and continued to dominate in the second half. The Maroon and Cream held the Hornets to just 33 percent from the field for the game.

Alma returns to classes Monday before hosting Adrian Jan. 11 at 7:30 p.m.

One of the top Division III coaches in the nation, Charlie Goffnett has built the Alma women's basketball program into a national powerhouse. With three MIAA titles, five NCAA Tournament berths and one national championship under his belt, Goffnett is one of the most accomplished coaches in the nation.

Charlie Goffnett began coaching the women's golf team in 1990. As head coach, he has established a competitive program that is always on or near the top of the MIAA standings. In 1997, the Scots captured their third MIAA title under Goffnett's guidance.
