Darcie Philp Named MIAA Player of the Week

ALMA, Mich. - Alma senior center Darcie Philp (Ubly) was voted the most valuable player as the Scots won the Bethany, W.Va. Holiday Tournament championship.

She scored 20 points in an 84-73 victory over host Bethany and had a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds (all defensive) in an 83-78 championship game win over Ohio Dominican. In the games she shot 14-for-21 and was 8-for-10 on free throws with 17 rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots. Earlier in the week, in a 58-55 league loss to Calvin, she scored eight points and had five rebounds.

Alma returns to action Wednesday (Dec. 7) when it travels to Aquinas.

 

More than a third of all Alma students take part in at least one performance each year. The College offers majors in theatre, dance and music, but students of all majors may join in productions. The Remick Heritage Center for the Performing Arts is the region’s premiere performing arts facility.

Charlie Goffnett

One of the top Division III coaches in the nation, Charlie Goffnett has built the Alma women's basketball program into a national powerhouse. With three MIAA titles, five NCAA Tournament berths and one national championship under his belt, Goffnett is one of the most accomplished coaches in the nation.

Charlie Goffnett began coaching the women's golf team in 1990. As head coach, he has established a competitive program that is always on or near the top of the MIAA standings. In 1997, the Scots captured their third MIAA title under Goffnett's guidance.
