Scots Wrap Up Season First in NCAA

ALMA, Mich. - For the second season in a row the Alma College Scots women's basketball team has led Division III in free throw percentage as a team. Led by first team All-MIAA guard Katey Peacock (Gowen/Greenville), who shot a remarkable .819 (59-72) from the line, the Scots shot .760 (290-382) as a team to edge out Puget Sound (.757) for top honors in D-III. Peacock's proficiency from the free-throw line was good enough to rank her 32nd in the country in D-III. The Scots finished up a 13-11 (7-9 MIAA) season with a 73-63 loss to Albion in the MIAA Tournament.

Looking ahead to next season the Scots return the reigning scoring leader in the MIAA, Peacock, who will look to repeat as scoring champ in her senior season.

The Scots also return second team All-MIAA selection Erica Philp (Ubly), the only freshman to be named to either the first or second team. In addition to Philp and Peacock, Ashley Borcherding (Millington) returns for her senior season after garnering an All-MIAA honorable mention nod this past season. Next season the Scots will be without the services of All-MIAA honorable mention honoree Michelle Dettling (Chelsea) and Rondi Lounds (St. Johns), and reserves Jesse Roston (Negaunee), and Mindy VanDamme (Cornell/Gwinn), all of whom wrapped up their playing careers this past season.

Alma College’s teacher preparation program was rated “exemplary” in 2007 following a comprehensive review by the Michigan Department of Education.
