Peacock Named First Team All-MIAA

ALMA, Mich. - Alma College women’s basketball boasts the MIAA scoring leader and first team All-MIAA selection Katey Peacock (Gowen/Greenville), the conference office announced earlier this week.

Peacock led the Scots, averaging 15.8 points per game and 4.2 rebounds, despite battling through an injury-plagued season.

Freshman Erica Philp (Ubly) was named to the second team, the only freshman to be named to the first or second teams. Philp averaged nearly 12 points and 6.3 rebounds per game as a freshman.

Michelle Dettling (Chelsea) and Ashley Borcherding (Millington) were both named to the coaches’ honorable mention as both averaged nearly eight points per game.

The women led the Scots to a 13-11 record and a 7-9 conference mark, good for fourth place in the MIAA.

The Alma College Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team claimed its eighth consecutive regional championship at the SIFE USA Regional Competition in March 2008. The competition awards the SIFE teams that are most effective in teaching the principals of market economics through outreach projects in their communities.
