Second Half Surge Not Enough

ALBION, Mich. - The Alma College women's basketball team ended its 2004-05 campaign with a 73-63 loss to Albion College Thursday evening (Feb. 24).

The Scots put together a 39-point second half after playing to a 37-24 halftime disadvantage.

Junior Katey Peacock (Gowen/Greenville) led the Scots with 17 points despite suffering an ankle injury in practice Wednesday. Mindy VanDamme (Cornell/Gwinn) and Darcie Philp (Ubly) added 10 points in the loss.

The Maroon and Cream end the season with a 13-11 overall record and a 7-9 record in MIAA Conference play while Albion advances to the MIAA Tournament finals against Calvin Saturday.

 

Alma College students are annual high achievers in the national Model United Nations competition. Alma has received Outstanding Delegation awards in each of the last 12 years (1997 through 2008) at the world’s largest and most prestigious collegiate Model UN Conference in New York City.

Charlie Goffnett

One of the top Division III coaches in the nation, Charlie Goffnett has built the Alma women's basketball program into a national powerhouse. With three MIAA titles, five NCAA Tournament berths and one national championship under his belt, Goffnett is one of the most accomplished coaches in the nation.

Charlie Goffnett began coaching the women's golf team in 1990. As head coach, he has established a competitive program that is always on or near the top of the MIAA standings. In 1997, the Scots captured their third MIAA title under Goffnett's guidance.
