Alma Overcomes Halftime Deficit To Strike Thunder

ALMA, Mich. - Alma College women’s basketball picked up its first win in the 2005 post-season with a 93-83 victory against Tri-State University (Ind.) Tuesday night (Feb. 22). The Scots now travel to Albion to face the Britons Thursday (Feb. 24) at 7:30 p.m.

Alma had five players in double figures as Rondi Lounds (St. Johns) led all scorers with 19 points. Erica Philp (Ubly) was right behind her with 18 points while Katey Peacock (Gowen/Greenville) added 16 for the Scots. Darcie Philp (Ubly) and Ashley Borcherding (Millington) rounded out top scorers with 15 and 10 points each, respectively. Michelle Dettling (Chelsea) was the leading rebounder in the game with 11 boards, including 10 defensively.

The Scots took just two shots from three point land, sinking both and shot 58 percent from the field, including nearly 68 percent in the second half alone. The Maroon and Cream were perfect from the free throw line in the second half, going 16-for-16 from the charity stripe.

Trailing 49-37 at halftime, the Scots put together a 56-point second half to overcome the Thunder.

Alma returns to action this Thursday (Feb. 24) at Albion College as the Britons are the top-ranked team in the MIAA Tournament. The Britons advanced by defeating Adrian, 75-44 Tuesday evening.
