Peacock Named MIAA Player of the Week

ALMA, Mich. - Alma College women’s basketball junior Katey Peacock (Gowen/Greenville) has been named the MIAA’s Player of the Week for the period ending Feb. 5, the conference office announced Sunday (Feb. 6).

Peacock led the Scots to a pair of conference victories last week - a 27-point, 14-rebound performance in a 92-86 win against Tri-State, including seven assists and six steals. She followed with a 13 point outing in a 71-68 win at Olivet, collecting five steals and three assists. For the week, Peacock went 16-for-30 from the field and 6-for-7 from the free throw line.

Peacock and the Scots return to action Wednesday (Feb. 9) when they host Hope College at 7:30 p.m.

 

Alma College has phenomenal 90 percent placement rates into medical and law schools, compared to a national average of 46.6 percent for medical school placement. More than 90 percent of all Alma graduates report working in full-time positions or attending graduate school within six months of graduation.

One of the top Division III coaches in the nation, Charlie Goffnett has built the Alma women's basketball program into a national powerhouse. With three MIAA titles, five NCAA Tournament berths and one national championship under his belt, Goffnett is one of the most accomplished coaches in the nation.

Charlie Goffnett began coaching the women's golf team in 1990. As head coach, he has established a competitive program that is always on or near the top of the MIAA standings. In 1997, the Scots captured their third MIAA title under Goffnett's guidance.
