Albion Gets Best of Alma

ALBION, Mich. - Alma College women’s basketball (7-9, 2-8 MIAA) faltered on the road against Albion, dropping the team’s third consecutive contest, 63-47.

Katey Peacock (Gowen/Greenville) led Alma with 12 points and six rebounds while Erica Philp (Ubly) added 11 points and seven boards.

As a team, the Scots shot a paltry 20 percent from the field in the first half before getting some momentum going in the second stanza to shoot nearly 32 percent for the game.

Alma returns to action Wednesday (Feb. 2) when it hosts Tri-State University at 7:30 p.m.

 

Since 2003, twenty-three Alma College students have won prestigious national fellowships, scholarships and awards, including 13 Fulbright fellowships and multiple Udall, Truman, Marshall and Gates-Cambridge scholarships.

Charlie Goffnett

One of the top Division III coaches in the nation, Charlie Goffnett has built the Alma women's basketball program into a national powerhouse. With three MIAA titles, five NCAA Tournament berths and one national championship under his belt, Goffnett is one of the most accomplished coaches in the nation.

Charlie Goffnett began coaching the women's golf team in 1990. As head coach, he has established a competitive program that is always on or near the top of the MIAA standings. In 1997, the Scots captured their third MIAA title under Goffnett's guidance.
