Calvin Tops Alma, 64-52

ALMA, Mich. - Alma College women’s basketball fell to 7-8 (2-7 MIAA) Wednesday night as Calvin entered Cappaert Gymnasium and took the win, 64-52.

Despite a one-point lead at halftime, the Scots emerged to score just 25 points in the second half as compared to Calvin’s 38, the difference in the contest.

Katey Peacock (Gowen/Greenville) led all Scots with 17 points while Erica Philp (Ubly) added nine points. Mid-season transfer Darcie Philp (Ubly) added eight points and three rebounds. Michelle Dettling (Chelsea) led the Maroon and Cream on the boards with seven rebounds.

Alma returns to action Saturday (Jan. 29) at Albion. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.

 

Since 2003, twenty-three Alma College students have won prestigious national fellowships, scholarships and awards, including 13 Fulbright fellowships and multiple Udall, Truman, Marshall and Gates-Cambridge scholarships.

Charlie Goffnett

One of the top Division III coaches in the nation, Charlie Goffnett has built the Alma women's basketball program into a national powerhouse. With three MIAA titles, five NCAA Tournament berths and one national championship under his belt, Goffnett is one of the most accomplished coaches in the nation.

Charlie Goffnett began coaching the women's golf team in 1990. As head coach, he has established a competitive program that is always on or near the top of the MIAA standings. In 1997, the Scots captured their third MIAA title under Goffnett's guidance.
