Scots Lose To Calvin, 68-45

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Alma College women's basketball (2-3, 0-2 MIAA) dropped its second-straight contest with a 68-45 loss to Calvin in Grand Rapids tonight. Katey Peacock (Gowen/Greenville) led the Scots with 11 points, the only Alma player in double digits. The normally sharp-shooting Scots made just one three-point basket on the evening, going 1-for-8 for the game and shooting just 35 percent from the field.

Abigail Way (Fowlerville) and Ashley Matuzak (Saginaw/Nouvel Catholic) each added seven points in the effort while Erica Philp (Ubly) led the team with five rebounds.

Alma returns to the hardwood this Saturday (Dec. 11) when they travel to Negaunee, Mich. to face Finlandia at the Lakeview School. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m.

 

Alma students can explore the environmental wonders of the Galapagos Islands, practice Spanish language skills, study Ecuadorian culture, complete coursework in business finance, and fulfill a South American internship in entrepreneurship through Alma College’s one-of-a-kind partnership with Equatorialis University in Quito, Ecuador.

Charlie Goffnett

One of the top Division III coaches in the nation, Charlie Goffnett has built the Alma women's basketball program into a national powerhouse. With three MIAA titles, five NCAA Tournament berths and one national championship under his belt, Goffnett is one of the most accomplished coaches in the nation.

Charlie Goffnett began coaching the women's golf team in 1990. As head coach, he has established a competitive program that is always on or near the top of the MIAA standings. In 1997, the Scots captured their third MIAA title under Goffnett's guidance.
