Ellen (Bradbury) Curtis is in her fifth season as an assistant coach.

Curtis was a standout basketball player for the Scots. She was named the MIAA's Most Valuable Player in 1998, led the conference in scoring in 1999 and was a first-team All-MIAA pick both seasons. She was named first-team All-Region and was a Kodak All-American following the 1998-99 season. Curtis  ended her four-year career at Alma with 1,277 points, 531 rebounds, 57 blocks and 90 steals and is ranked in the top 10 in school history in all four categories. On the volleyball court, Curtis was a first-team All-MIAA pick in 1997 and ranks among the career leaders in blocks and kills.

In the classroom, she received the Tadd Harburn Scholar Athlete award and the Alma College Outstanding Leadership Award in 1999.

Curtis lives in Midland with her husband, Jeff, the women's basketball head coach at Northwood University and a 1998 graduate of Alma College.

 

The Alma College Percussion Ensemble performed at the prestigious Centrum Jazz Festival, an international festival in Port Townsend, Wash., in July 2007. Alma was the only college group invited to perform. “It’s a huge honor,” says faculty director Dave Zerbe. “You can’t apply to perform there; they seek you out.”

Charlie Goffnett

Charlie Goffnett

One of the top Division III coaches in the nation, Charlie Goffnett has built the Alma women's basketball program into a national powerhouse. With three MIAA titles, five NCAA Tournament berths and one national championship under his belt, Goffnett is one of the most accomplished coaches in the nation.

Charlie Goffnett began coaching the women's golf team in 1990. As head coach, he has established a competitive program that is always on or near the top of the MIAA standings. In 1997, the Scots captured their third MIAA title under Goffnett's guidance.
