Scots Volleyball headed to the MIAA Semi-Finals after defeating Kalamazoo 3-1 (25-16, 25-23, 12-25, 25-15)

The Alma College Volleyball team hosted Kalamazoo College on Tuesday in a MIAA First Round contest and came away with a 3-1 victory. The Scots improved to 17-12 on the season and will now take on Calvin College on Friday after the 25-16, 25-23, 12-25, 25-12 victory over the Hornets. Kalamazoo finishes its season with a record of 12-17 after tonight's defeat.

MH Shelby Gray (Bloomfield Hills, MI/West Bloomfield) led the home team with 12 kills, while OH Beth Caldwell (Imlay City, MI/Imlay City) and OH Katie Bourbonnais (Niles, MI/Niles) each added nine.

S Hannah Hewitt (Alanson, MI/Harbor Light Christian) continued her torrid pace in assists by adding 39 more this evening. OH Stephanie Bradshaw (Livonia, MI/Churchill) had 27 digs, while Caldwell contributed 22 of her own in the win.

Shelby Gray paced the Scots with 12 kills

Alma's game against Calvin on Friday starts at 5:30 p.m. at host Hope College, with the winner advancing to the league Championship on Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m., again at Hope.

Alma College students are annual high achievers in the national Model United Nations competition. Alma has received Outstanding Delegation awards in each of the last 13 years (1997 through 2009) at the world's largest and most prestigious collegiate Model UN Conference in New York City.

Cheyenne Luzynski

Alma College Athletics appointed Cheyenne Luzynski as head volleyball coach beginning with the 2007 spring non-traditional season. Luzynski is the eighth head coach in the 31-year history of Alma College volleyball.

Luzynski has served as an assistant volleyball coach for two seasons and has led the junior varsity program during that time. She has served as an assistant coach with the men’s basketball program, leading its junior varsity program and is an assistant coach with the men’s and women’s track and field teams at Alma College. Additionally, Luzynski has been named an assistant Athletic Director and serves as the Senior Woman Administrator within the department.
