Alma Volleyball defeats Adrian 3-2 on Friday to finish the regular season

The Alma Volleyball team went south this evening to take on league foe Adrian College in their final MIAA contest of the season and came away with a hard-fought 3-2 win. The Scots defeated the Knights by scores of 25-13, 23-25, 23-25, 25-18, 15-12, and finished the regular season with a overall record of 16-12 (10-6 MIAA), while Adrian is now 5-20 in 2009 and 2-13 in the league.

Alma has clinched a third place finish in the MIAA and are awaiting final game results over the weekend to see who they will host in a first-round playoff match at Cappaert Gymnasium on Tuesday. It will mark the second consecutive season that the Scots, under the direction of Head Coach Cheyenne Luzynski, has hosted a first game of the MIAA tournament.

In this evening's contest, Katie Bourbonnais led the Scots with 16 kills, followed by Rebecca Ratkov with 14 and Shelby Gray with 13. As has been the case this season, Hannah Hewitt led the way with assists, as she notched 60 this evening, while Stephanie Bradshaw had 16 digs to lead the road team.

Cheyenne Luzynski

Alma College Athletics appointed Cheyenne Luzynski as head volleyball coach beginning with the 2007 spring non-traditional season. Luzynski is the eighth head coach in the 31-year history of Alma College volleyball.

Luzynski has served as an assistant volleyball coach for two seasons and has led the junior varsity program during that time. She has served as an assistant coach with the men’s basketball program, leading its junior varsity program and is an assistant coach with the men’s and women’s track and field teams at Alma College. Additionally, Luzynski has been named an assistant Athletic Director and serves as the Senior Woman Administrator within the department.
