Scots Volleyball travels to Albion and wins a tough four-set match

The Alma Volleyball team went down to Albion on Tuesday evening facing a tough and important match against the Britons. The visiting team came away with a hard fought 3-1 victory that game Alma a two-game third place lead over Albion.

The Scots won by a margin of 25-23, 25-13, 11-25, 27-25, and with the win, are now 8-4 in the MIAA and 14-10 overall, while the Britons fell to 6-6 in the league and 13-9 in 2009. 

Alma's So. MH Shelby Gray (Bloomfield Hills, MI/West Bloomfield) led the team in kills with 13, while So. OH Beth Caldwell (Imlay City, MI/Imlay City) finished with ten kills. Jr. S Hannah Hewitt (Alanson, MI/Harbor Light Christian) continued her strong season with 40 assists, and Jr. OH Stephanie Bradshaw (Livonia, MI/Churchill) contributed 20 digs.

The task does not get easier for the Scots, as they host #13 Calvin College in a MIAA tilt on Saturday afternoon. Start time for Senior Day 2009 is slated for 3:00 p.m. at Cappaert Gymnasium.

Cheyenne Luzynski

Alma College Athletics appointed Cheyenne Luzynski as head volleyball coach beginning with the 2007 spring non-traditional season. Luzynski is the eighth head coach in the 31-year history of Alma College volleyball.

Luzynski has served as an assistant volleyball coach for two seasons and has led the junior varsity program during that time. She has served as an assistant coach with the men’s basketball program, leading its junior varsity program and is an assistant coach with the men’s and women’s track and field teams at Alma College. Additionally, Luzynski has been named an assistant Athletic Director and serves as the Senior Woman Administrator within the department.
