ALMA VOLLEYBALL LOSES TO HOST MT. UNION 3-1 IN 1ST PLACE MATCH OF WEEKEND TOURNAMENT

Alma’s Volleyball team completed a great weekend on Saturday, even though they dropped the 1st Place match to host Mt. Union College by a score of 3-1. The Scots had won three previous matches by identical margins of 3-0, giving the the squad a 9-0 advantage going into the Championship.

“I am so proud of our girls and with the way they played this weekend,” said Head Coach Cheyenne Luzynski. “We competed against some really tough teams and with having such a young squad, I am really satisfied with what we accomplished.

Alma begins league play on Tuesday, when they travel to Hope to take on the Lady Dutch and will have their first home match on Friday, September 11, when the Scots host MIAA rival Olivet College.The Scots defeated Case Western (3-0) and Defiance (3-0) on Friday, while defeating Oberlin (3-0) today before the 1st place match.

Alma College students are annual high achievers in the national Model United Nations competition. Alma has received Outstanding Delegation awards in each of the last 13 years (1997 through 2009) at the world's largest and most prestigious collegiate Model UN Conference in New York City.

Cheyenne Luzynski

Alma College Athletics appointed Cheyenne Luzynski as head volleyball coach beginning with the 2007 spring non-traditional season. Luzynski is the eighth head coach in the 31-year history of Alma College volleyball.

Luzynski has served as an assistant volleyball coach for two seasons and has led the junior varsity program during that time. She has served as an assistant coach with the men’s basketball program, leading its junior varsity program and is an assistant coach with the men’s and women’s track and field teams at Alma College. Additionally, Luzynski has been named an assistant Athletic Director and serves as the Senior Woman Administrator within the department.
