KIM GILLHESPY NAMED VOLLEYBALL DIVISION III HONORABLE MENTION ALL-AMERICA

Alma volleyball player Kim Gillhespy has been named Division III Honorable Mention All-America by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). Gillhespy was one of just 42 Division III players to be recognized for their performances during the 2008 season.
Gillhespy, a Middle Hitter from Cedar Springs, MI, was also one of just four Michigan Intercollegiate Atheletic Association (MIAA) athletes to be named to the All Great Lakes Region Team. In addition, Gillhespy earned All-MIAA First Team honors as well for 2008.
Gilhespy was a big reason why the Scots became one of true feel-good stories in the MIAA during the fall. The team that finished the regular season with a 21-9 record (11-5 in league play) after finishing 8-22 (3-13 MIAA) in 2007. Alma also advanced to the MIAA Semi-Finals of the league tournament by defeating Albion College. The season ended there, however, as a Norovirus on the Hope College campus forced cancellation of the rest of the tournament.
Joined by S Hannah Hewitt (Alanson, MI) on the All-MIAA honors list (Second Team), Gillhespy finished in the top ten of four league statistical categories. The senior was second in the league in hitting percentage (.346), second in blocks (1.17), fourth in kills (4.1 per game) and seventh in service aces (0.32).
