ALMA VOLLEYBALL WINS 3-2 AT ADRIAN

Alma's overachieving 2008 Women's Volleyball Team hit the road, Tuesday, and defeated MIAA rival, Adrian College, 3-2, (23-25, 25-20, 18-25, 25-16, 15-9).  The victory improved Alma to a 19-7 record overall (11-3 MIAA) and solidly in the top three in the league.

On Tuesday, OH Kim Gillhespy led the way with 26 kills, 6 digs and 1 blocked shot, while S Hannah Hewitt, paced the Scots with 46 assists and 8 digs.  Other notable Alma players were S Katie Porter with 22 digs and OH Beth Caldwell with 6 kills and 17 digs.

Alma will play in the Midwest Challenge, hosted by Hope and Calvin Colleges, on October 31 and November 1, to determine seeding for the MIAA tournament.  It is expected that the Scots will be in a position to host a first round league playoff game.  Details will follow.

Cheyenne Luzynski

Alma College Athletics appointed Cheyenne Luzynski as head volleyball coach beginning with the 2007 spring non-traditional season. Luzynski is the eighth head coach in the 31-year history of Alma College volleyball.

Luzynski has served as an assistant volleyball coach for two seasons and has led the junior varsity program during that time. She has served as an assistant coach with the men’s basketball program, leading its junior varsity program and is an assistant coach with the men’s and women’s track and field teams at Alma College. Additionally, Luzynski has been named an assistant Athletic Director and serves as the Senior Woman Administrator within the department.
