ALMA VOLLEYBALL WINS TWO IN MANCHESTER

The Alma Women's Volleyball team hit the road on Friday for the Manchester College/Pizza Hut Invitational in Manchester (IN) and came away with two victories on the tournament's first day. The Scots now stand 11-4 on the 2008 season.

The Scots defeated Goshen in the opener 3-2 (25-16, 19-25, 25-23, 21-25, 15-13) and were successful in defeating the host team Manchester in the nightcap 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-18).

Saturday brings two more contests for Alma as the Scots play Huntington at 1:00 p.m. followed by a game against Earlham at 3:00 p.m.

The Scots continue conference play on Tuesday night when they host Adrian College at Cappaert Gymnasium beginning at 6:30 p.m.

 

Thirty-four percent of Alma students participate in intercollegiate athletics. Alma College competes at the NCAA Division III level as a member of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association, the oldest existing athletic conference in the nation.

Cheyenne Luzynski

Alma College Athletics appointed Cheyenne Luzynski as head volleyball coach beginning with the 2007 spring non-traditional season. Luzynski is the eighth head coach in the 31-year history of Alma College volleyball.

Luzynski has served as an assistant volleyball coach for two seasons and has led the junior varsity program during that time. She has served as an assistant coach with the men’s basketball program, leading its junior varsity program and is an assistant coach with the men’s and women’s track and field teams at Alma College. Additionally, Luzynski has been named an assistant Athletic Director and serves as the Senior Woman Administrator within the department.
