KIM GILLHESPY NAMED MIAA VOLLEYBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Middle Hitter Kim Gillhespy (Cedar Springs, MI) was named MIAA Player of the Week on Monday.  The Scots finished 4-1 during the week and stand at 6-3 for the 2008 season and head into a conference showdown with Albion College on Tuesday at Cappaert Gymnasium beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Gillhespy, a senior, had 13 kills and a hitting percentage of .429 for the week and also had four blocks in Alma's three-game sweep against MIAA rival Olivet last Wednesday at Cappaert. 

"Kim had a very consistent week and was very much a leader for us," said Head Coach Cheyenne Luzynski. "With the kills she had and her high hitting percentage, she led the way for us and ultimately the team benefited by winning four of five games."

Gillhespy was also named to the All-Tournament team at a tournament at Baldwin-Wallace (OH) this past weekend.

Spring Term at Alma is a one-month immersion on a single academic topic that offers learning experiences not typically available during the more traditional 15-week fall and winter terms. For example, during Spring Term ‘07 students explored important cultural sites in China, worked to restore a Jewish Holocaust cemetery in Poland, analyzed ethic politics in Scotland, and studied medieval literature in London.

Cheyenne Luzynski

Alma College Athletics appointed Cheyenne Luzynski as head volleyball coach beginning with the 2007 spring non-traditional season. Luzynski is the eighth head coach in the 31-year history of Alma College volleyball.

Luzynski has served as an assistant volleyball coach for two seasons and has led the junior varsity program during that time. She has served as an assistant coach with the men’s basketball program, leading its junior varsity program and is an assistant coach with the men’s and women’s track and field teams at Alma College. Additionally, Luzynski has been named an assistant Athletic Director and serves as the Senior Woman Administrator within the department.
