Volleyball to Begin 08 Season Friday

2008 ALMA WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL TEAM TO BEGIN SEASON ON FRIDAY, AUGUST 29

The 2008 Alma College Women's Volleyball Team will begin its season against the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on their home court this Friday at 3:00 p.m.

Head Coach Cheyenne Luzynski brings her squad to Wisconsin to play four games in the two day Whitewater tournament - an early test for a team looking to make some noise in the MIAA this season.  Also on Friday, the Scots will tangle with Wheaton College (IL) at 7:00 p.m. before playing two more games the following day.

On Saturday, Alma will play Bethel College (MN) at 9:00 a.m. and then finish the round-robin tourney with a match against Millikin College (IL) at 11:00 a.m.

The first home game for the Scots will be on September 3 against Olivet College at 6:30 p.m.

Alma College's partnership with the Pine River Superfund Citizen Task Force, an EPA-sanctioned Community Advisory Group (CAG), received the 2008 Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Partnership Award for Campus-Community Collaboration, sponsored by Michigan Campus Compact. The Task Force is recognized as one of the most influential and active CAGs nationally and as having the largest membership of any CAG in the United States.

Cheyenne Luzynski

Alma College Athletics appointed Cheyenne Luzynski as head volleyball coach beginning with the 2007 spring non-traditional season. Luzynski is the eighth head coach in the 31-year history of Alma College volleyball.

Luzynski has served as an assistant volleyball coach for two seasons and has led the junior varsity program during that time. She has served as an assistant coach with the men’s basketball program, leading its junior varsity program and is an assistant coach with the men’s and women’s track and field teams at Alma College. Additionally, Luzynski has been named an assistant Athletic Director and serves as the Senior Woman Administrator within the department.
