VOLLEYBALL: Scots Take Three From Olivet, Advance to Play Calvin in Second Round Action

Alma, Mi. - The Scots needed a win to keep their season alive and that is exactly what they got, defeating Olivet College in three games to win the MIAA Tournament Play-In Match and advance to play Calvin College in the first round of the tournament.

Leading the way for the Scots was junior Kim Gillhespy (Cedar Springs/Cedar Springs) who recorded 17 kills and six and a half blocks in the game.

With the win, Alma College will travel to Calvin College to take on the number one ranked team in the conference. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.

The Corporation for National and Community Service named Alma College to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll With Distinction for exemplary service efforts and service to disadvantaged youth. The Honor Roll is the highest federal recognition a school can achieve for its commitment to service-learning and civic engagement.

Cheyenne Luzynski

Alma College Athletics appointed Cheyenne Luzynski as head volleyball coach beginning with the 2007 spring non-traditional season. Luzynski is the eighth head coach in the 31-year history of Alma College volleyball.

Luzynski has served as an assistant volleyball coach for two seasons and has led the junior varsity program during that time. She has served as an assistant coach with the men’s basketball program, leading its junior varsity program and is an assistant coach with the men’s and women’s track and field teams at Alma College. Additionally, Luzynski has been named an assistant Athletic Director and serves as the Senior Woman Administrator within the department.
