VOLLEYBALL: Alma Falls To Kalamazoo, 0-3

The Alma College Volleyball Team welcomed Kalamazoo College to Cappaert Gymnasium for an MIAA conference showdown and fell by the scores 27-30, 19-30, and 25-30.

The Scots fell behind in the first game before rallying back to make the score 27-29. However, they were not able to finish out the game and Kalamazoo took the momentum from the first game win into the next two, sweeping the match.

Senior Amanda Risch (Cadillac/Cadillac) played another outstanding game as the Scots' leader, making 28 digs in the match. Freshman setter Hannah Hewitt (Alanson/Harbor Light) led the team with 20 assists and also added nine digs. Rebecca Bruning (Rogers City/Rogers City) also played solid for the Scots, recording eight kills and and 10 digs.

The Scots next take the court against Hope College as the host the Dutch tomorrow at 6:30 p.m.

Spring Term at Alma is a one-month immersion on a single academic topic that offers learning experiences not typically available during the more traditional 15-week fall and winter terms. For example, during Spring Term ’08, students toured cultural sites in Argentina, studied lizards in Jamaica, analyzed World War II topics at the British National Archives in London, performed music in Italy, and examined the natural wonders of New Zealand.

Cheyenne Luzynski

Alma College Athletics appointed Cheyenne Luzynski as head volleyball coach beginning with the 2007 spring non-traditional season. Luzynski is the eighth head coach in the 31-year history of Alma College volleyball.

Luzynski has served as an assistant volleyball coach for two seasons and has led the junior varsity program during that time. She has served as an assistant coach with the men’s basketball program, leading its junior varsity program and is an assistant coach with the men’s and women’s track and field teams at Alma College. Additionally, Luzynski has been named an assistant Athletic Director and serves as the Senior Woman Administrator within the department.
