ALMA MEN'S AND WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD TEAMS PARTICIPATE IN MIAA JAMBOREE AT ADRIAN TODAY WHERE THE WOMEN'S TEAM TAKES 4TH AND THE MEN'S TEAM TAKES 5TH

On Saturday, the Alma Men's and Women's Track and Field team competed in the MIAA Team Jamboree at Adrian College and came away with fifth and fourth place finishes respectively. The Scots next compete on Saturday, April 18, when they participate in the Northwood Invitational, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Below, please find some the individual highlights from the competition at Adrian.

Women:

Emily Scherer (Marshall) and Kristina Fuehring (Hart) led the sprinters. Scherer was 5th place in the 200m at 26.72 and Fuehring was 4th in the 400m at 1:02.16.

Kellee Lemcke (Sterling Heights) paced the distance runners with a 2nd in the 10k at 37:47.94 and 18:16.93 in the 5k good for 4th place.

It he jumping events Andrea Richardson (Mayville) won the pole vault with a 3.05m vault, tied for 1st in the high jump at 1.52m and was 7th in the long jump at 4.80m.  Katie Porter (Cheboygan) placed 3rd in the long jump at 5.01m.

Lauren Forrest (Laingsburg) paced the women throwers with a 2nd in the javelin at 32.49.  Steph Weymouth (Munising) nabbed a 5th in the hammer throw at 30.36m.

The 4x100 and 4x400 relays both had season bests at 51.00 and 4:17.69.  Katie Porter, Emily Scherer, Kristina Fuehring, and Ashley Ocenasek ran the 4x100 and 4x400m relays.

Men:

Eric Braun (Hale) paced the men sprinters with fine performances in the 100m at11.65, 200m at 23.32, and a 51.92 in the 400m.

Men McMurray (Petoskey), Steve Rose (Essexville), and Matt Deja (Edmore) pace the middle distance men with 800m finishes of 7th, 8th, and 14th with times of 2:00.75, 2:01.10, and 2:03.75.

In the 5k Wade Peacock (Benzonia) and Mike Bremer (Corunna) placed 5th and 10th with times of 15:31.82 and 15:55.35.  Mike Bremer also placed 5th in the 10k at 33:32.46.

In the hurdles, freshman Joe Merlo (Owosso) had a fine showing placing 13th and 7th with marks of 16.97 and 59.03.

In the jumps Chris Francis (Lapeer) placed 2nd in the long jump at 6.84, 7th in the high jump at 1.78m, and 9th in the triple jump at 11.97m.

The throwing events were paced by Tyler Pettit (Kentwood) with a 4th in the Shot Put at 13.53m, Steve Lewis (Jackson) in the hammer at 34.65, and Adam Ellsworth (Greenville) placing 8th in the discus at 36.92m.

Eric Braun, Chris Francis, Nick Merlo, and Steve Rose teamed up to get 4th in the 4x400m relay at 3:32.10.

Results

Jim Cole
Graduation: 1974

Jim Cole ‘74 enters his 18th season at the helm of the Scots. In 2004, Cole led the Scots to the MIAA title and a berth in the NCAA Division III national playoffs, the second time in three years the Maroon and Cream advanced to the NCAA postseason.

A former All-MIAA and All-District quarterback for the Scots, Cole draws on the championship experiences of playing for the 1970, ‘71 and ‘72 MIAA co-champions and coaching the 1988 co-champ’s defense.

Cole sports a career mark of 105-67-0, making him Alma’s winningest football coach.
