TRACK & FIELD: Alma Grab Fourth Place in Men's and Women's at MIAA Field Day

May 2, 2008

Alma, Mich.- What a difference a year makes as the Alma College Men's and Women's Track & Field Teams moved from the bottom half of the MIAA standings a year ago, to respectable fourth place finishes with many athletes challenging in their events in this year's MIAA Field Day.

Senior sprinter Kyle Percival (Lansing/Waverly), who had already broke the school record and qualified for nationals with a 10.52 sec 100m dash earlier this season, defended his MIAA Crown in the 100 meters with a finals time of 10.79 sec.

Percival was the only event champion from Alma, however, there were several other Scots who finished in the top five in their events.

Andrea Richardson (Mayville) finished second in the high jump with a height of 1.62 meters and the pole vault with a height of 3.26 meters. Amanda Weber (Portland/St. Patrick's), Natalie Cordes (Barton City/Alcona), and Erika Sherwood (St. Johns) took third, fifth and sixth in the javelin with Weber leading the way with a distance of 31.53 meters.

Freshman Taylor Jackson (Sanford/Meridian) also had a solid day for the Scots, grabbing third place in the men's high jump with a height of 1.98 meters- which was the winning height (Jackson took multiple jumps to make the height).

Sophomore Nathan Garvin (Beaverton) took second in men's pole vault with a height of 4.22 meters and junior Chris Francis (Lapeer/East) took second in the men's long jump with a distance of 6.67 meters. Garvin also took fourth in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.52 sec.

Weber wasn't the only Scot who excelled in the field events which have been a strenght for the Scots all season, as freshman Adam Ellsworth (Greenville) took third in the men's discus with a distance of 42.69 meters and Tyler Petit (Kentwood) and Karl Recker (Ubly) took fourth and seventh in the men's shot put with distances of 14.28 meters and 13.40 meters respectively.
