TRACK & FIELD: FRESHMAN FINDS HIS NICHE WITH THE SCOTS

Alma, Mi.- Frankie Brun (Oscoda/Culver Academies) came to Alma as a soccer player and a sprinter who had never qualified for a regional meet, or had received an all conference nod in high school track. After participating in one season with the Scots, Frankie found his event in the Triple Jump, was named to the All-MIAA team, and will be traveling to Oshkosh, Wis. to represent Alma College at the D3 National meet.

Frankie qualified for Nationals during the MIAA Field Day where he took second place with a distance of 46-4. One week later, he participated in the Aquinas Invitational where he defeated many D2 athletes, winning the contest and breaking the Alma College record with a distance of 47-9 1/2.  The distance was the eighth largest of all National qualifiers, putting the talented freshman square in contention for the National Title. On this topic, Brun commented, "One good jump. I'm one good jump away from winning at Nationals."

"In high school I never qualified for Regionals or States. I never even won an all conference award. I'm so excited, I don't even know how to explain it. I'm just going to go out there and lay it all on the line," added Brun on his feelings regarding his amazing season.

This exceptional young man, who has taken on the challenge of being a math major, is ready to take on the role of being one of two Scots who are representing Alma College at the National Meet for the first time this decade. When asked if he would ever think about transferring out to get an athletic scholarship, Brun replied; "I am maroon through and through- Proud to be a Scott. I'm here to stay."

And Alma will be glad to have him.
