Alma Track Finishes 17th Overall at Emory Invitational

ATLANTA, Ga. - Alma College track and field's combined men's and women's team finished 17th - the women scoring 29 points to finish 12th while the men scored six to end tied for 20th.

Scoring for the women were 5000 meter runners Allie Gibson (Rochester Hills/Adams) and Megan Gibson (Alma). Both finishing with times just over 22 minutes. In the 100 hurdles, Rachel Rochefort (Bad Axe) were just out of scoring, finishing ninth with a time of 17.12. Erin Hemerling (Hastings) was seventh in the 3000 steeplechase with a time of 13:05.75. Alma's 4x100 relay team managed an eighth place finish with a time of 51.95 while the 4x400 team was seventh with a time of 4:18.20. In the high jump, Andrea Richardson (Mayville) was third, scoring six points with a height of 5-4.00. Richardson turned in a seventh place performance in the pole vault with a mark of 10-00.00 even.

Tara Bjorne (Manistique) added to the team total, finishing seventh with a mark of 4.85 and was seventh in the triple jump with a mark of 10.10 meters she was also 19th in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.77.

Caitlin Fowler (St. Louis) was a scorer as well for Alma in the shot put, finishing seventh with a throw of 9.94 meters. She upped her finish in the discus throw to sixth with a mark of 31.82 meters.

In another field event, Molly Steere (St. Louis) was sixth in the javelin with a throw of 30.05 meters.

In men's action, Kyle Percival (Lansing/Waverly) was seventh in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.36. Percival turned in a ninth-place performance in the 200 meter dash, just out of scoring with a time of 22.83. At the other end of the spectrum, Steve Kuhlman (Battle Creek/Lakeview) finished just of scoring in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 34:45.76 in ninth place.

Scoring for the Scots, Chris Francis (Lapeer/East) was eighth with a height of 70.00. He turned in a solid performance in the long jump, scoring in eighth with a mark of 6.20 meters. In another field event, Pat Tompkins (Fenwick) was seventh with a throw of 39.83 meters for two team points.

Alma next travels to Manchester, Ind., for the Manchester Invitational on March 31.

 

Thirty-four percent of Alma students participate in intercollegiate athletics. Alma College competes at the NCAA Division III level as a member of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association, the oldest existing athletic conference in the nation.

Jeff Hosler
Graduation: 2002

Jeff Hosler '02 joined the Alma College Athletics staff as the Scots women's soccer coach in 2006 and has helped the Maroon and Cream rise as one of the most talented young teams in the MIAA.

In his time at Alma, Hosler became one of the best players in the 30 years of Scots soccer. He remains the all-time assists leader and ranks in the top ten in career goals and in the top five in career points. He helped the Scots to their second MIAA title, first-ever NCAA Regional Championship and first-ever NCAA Final Four appearance in 1999 en route to first team All-MIAA and third team All-Mideast Region honors. He would go on to earn first team All-MIAA accolades again in 2001 and was named to the conference's second team in 2000.
