Scots Open Season at GVSU Indoor Invitational

Results

ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Alma College track and field team opened competition 2007 season with a strong performance at the GVSU Indoor Invitational. Kyle Percival (Lansing/Waverly) qualified number one in the preliminaries, going on to finish second in the finals of the 55 meter dash with a time of 6.66, beaten by just .04 seconds by Joshua Rhue, running unattached. Freshman Frankie Brun (Oscoda/Culver Academies) ended 12th in the 400 meter dash and was fourth in the long jump with a mark of 20-05.75. The triple jump saw Brun finish third with a distance of 43-11.25.

Chris Francis (Lapeer/Lapeer East) finished fifth in the high jump with a mark of 6-00.50. He tied Brun in the long jump with a time of 20-05.75.

On the women's side, Tara Bjorne (Manistique) was just out of finals contention, finishing ninth in the preliminaries with a time of 7:82 in the 55 meter dash.

Kristina Fuehring (Hart) was seventh in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:04.69 while Andrea Richardson (Mayville) was ninth in the high jump with a height of 4-11.00 and was 12th in the pole vault with a mark of 10-00.00.

The Scots return to action Feb. 16 when it travels to Mt. Pleasant for the CMU Indoor Invitational.

 

Spring Term at Alma is a one-month immersion on a single academic topic that offers learning experiences not typically available during the more traditional 15-week fall and winter terms. For example, during Spring Term ’08, students toured cultural sites in Argentina, studied lizards in Jamaica, analyzed World War II topics at the British National Archives in London, performed music in Italy, and examined the natural wonders of New Zealand.

Alma College Athletics appointed Cheyenne Luzynski as head volleyball coach beginning with the 2007 spring non-traditional season. Luzynski is the eighth head coach in the 31-year history of Alma College volleyball.

Luzynski has served as an assistant volleyball coach for two seasons and has led the junior varsity program during that time. She has served as an assistant coach with the men’s basketball program, leading its junior varsity program and is an assistant coach with the men’s and women’s track and field teams at Alma College. Additionally, Luzynski has been named an assistant Athletic Director and serves as the Senior Woman Administrator within the department.
