Sias Continues Dominance in Distance Events

ALMA, Mich. - Alma College women's track and field defeated Adrian 148-14. The Scots lost to Albion 118-71.

Emily Sias (Mt Pleasant) won both the 3000 and 5000 meter events with times of 11:09 and 19:13.40, respectively, convincingly outpacing the competition.

Phoebe Renne (Rodney/Chippewa Hills) took top honors in the women's high jump with a height of 4'10".

Other key performers for the Scots included Katie Porter and Kyle Crawford who took first and second in the long jump with distances of 16'2" and 15'7".

Since 2003, twenty-three Alma College students have won prestigious national fellowships, scholarships and awards, including 13 Fulbright fellowships and multiple Udall, Truman, Marshall and Gates-Cambridge scholarships.

Dennis Griffin

Dennis Griffin

Denny Griffin is heading into his 26th year at Alma College and his 20th at the helm of the Scots softball program. He moved into the head softball coaching position in 1989 after two years as assistant coach. His teams have never fallen lower than third place in conference standings and 12 of his last 14 teams have qualified for the NCAA Tournament.

In addition to his softball duties, Griffin is the program director for the Athletic Training Education Program. He teaches first aid/CPR and sports medicine classes in the Exercise and Health Science Department.
