Lynx Invitational in Memphis, Tenn., opens outdoor track season.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Alma men's track and field competed at the Lynx Invitational at Rhodes College Saturday (March 25) and got solid performances in the team's first outdoor competition of the season.

Chris Francis took runner-up honors in the long jump with a mark of 6.69 meters, edging out competitors from MIAA rival Calvin in the process. Dustin Roberson snagged a top ten finish in the same event with a mark of 6.08 meters, good for eighth place.

Pat Tompkins finished sixth in the discus with a distance of 39.90 meters.

Mat Lambourn was fourth in the javelin with a distance of 43.57 and finished ninth in the 100 meter dash, clocking in with 11.67. Brian McIntosh was 11th with a time of 11.69.

Rory Wildner finished eighth in the 400 hurdles and Okwara Uzoh was ninth with times of 59.83 and 1:00.26, respectively.

Chris Francis notched another top ten finish in the high jump with a mark of 1.70 meters.

Dustin Roberson finished 12th in the 400 meter dash with a time of 52.23.

The 4x100 meter relay team finished seventh with a time of 45.23 and the 4x400 relay team was seventh with a time of 3:34.56.

The Scots next travel to Manchester, Ind., for the Manchester Invitational on April 1.

 

Students at Alma College can get involved in any of nearly 100 campus organizations, including fraternities and sororities, student government, academic honorary societies, campus media, intramural sports, the performing arts and worship groups.

Charlie Goffnett

One of the top Division III coaches in the nation, Charlie Goffnett has built the Alma women's basketball program into a national powerhouse. With three MIAA titles, five NCAA Tournament berths and one national championship under his belt, Goffnett is one of the most accomplished coaches in the nation.

Charlie Goffnett began coaching the women's golf team in 1990. As head coach, he has established a competitive program that is always on or near the top of the MIAA standings. In 1997, the Scots captured their third MIAA title under Goffnett's guidance.
