Assistant Coach Matt Chovanec

Matt Chovanec '91 has returned to coach Cross Country and Track & Field at Alma College under new Coach Gordon Aldrich.

Coach Chovanec graduated from Alma College in 1991 with a B.A. in History. While at Alma, Chovanec was a two sport four time letter winner in Track & Field and Cross Country. Chovanec was named All-MIAA twice, team co-MVP once and served as a co-Captain for the 1990 Cross Country team.

As a high school coach at Breckenridge, Chovanec has coached two individual state champions and has had his Track teams place in the top ten at states three times, while his Cross Country teams qualified for states four out of eight years including winning the Boys Class C Regional Championship in 1998.

Chovanec has been coaching at Alma College in some capacity since 2002 including serving as the Men's Head Track & Field Coach from 2004-2006.

Coach Chovanec teaches Social Studies and Physical Education at Breckenridge High School. Him and his wife Kimberly reside in St. Louis with their three children; Hunter, Colton, and Kyler.

Chovanec holds the Alma College 10,000 Meter Run record at Alma College with a time of (31:19.91)

 

 

Students learn important leadership principles from internationally recognized speakers like Madeleine Albright and Vicente Fox and by participating in international study opportunities through inventive programs like the Center for Responsible Leadership and the Posey Global Leadership Fellows Program.

Jeff Hosler ‘02 joined the Alma College Athletics staff as the Scots women’s soccer coach in 2006 and has helped the Maroon and Cream rise as one of the most talented young teams in the MIAA.

In his time at Alma, Hosler became one of the best players in the 30 years of Scots soccer. He remains the all-time assists leader and ranks in the top ten in career goals and in the top five in career points. He helped the Scots to their second MIAA title, first-ever NCAA Regional Championship and first-ever NCAA Final Four appearance in 1999 en route to first team All-MIAA and third team All-Mideast Region honors. He would go on to earn first team All-MIAA accolades again in 2001 and was named to the conference’s second team in 2000.
