Alma Vs. Univ. of Findlay and Urbana Univ.

Sunday, October 26, 2008

I am liking how the season is going. This weekend’s tri-meet was a great meet for us as a team. I had some great swims (like my 100 back and lead offs in both the 200 med. and 200 free relays) and I had an off swim (200 free) but it was a great swim meet overall. It was great to win against both teams on the guys’ side, we were really working hard for that win against Findley. So I hope that everyone steps up gain and does their best next week against Hope.

Even though I didn't get to compete, the meet was still exciting.  I was really impressed with my teammates.  The swimmers had some close races and did really well, and the divers managed to pull off diving with a horrible 3-meter diving board.  Kayleigh even swam in the 200 free relay! I had some trouble with not being able to participate, but it just makes me that much more excited for next Saturday.  I do wish we had the bus next weekend though, because I LOVED the bus.

First off we got to use the College's charter bus for the almost 4 hour bus ride!  It was amazing!! We all had enough space were we could sleep and not disturb any one else. The meet in Ohio went really well for the team. It was a close meet from the beginning. With some amazing races we (the men's team) managed to beat both teams that were there. Everyone had some good events and not so good events. As for the divers, we treated this meet as a "requireds only" meet. Where we only do the basics for dives. The only reason we did this is because Findlay's 3-meter scares the crap out of all of us! :) 1-meter went well for me until my reverse 1 1/2 came around (Failed it). I was determined to come back from that disaster and I did. I managed to score 166.09 at the end of one meter. 3-meter was okay. Didn't expect much to happen (got a 144). Even though diving is a small part of the team I was glad to have the swimmers cheering us on because even though we don't practice with them it makes us (the divers) feel like we are still part of the team. Since this was my first meet of the season I'm pretty okay with how I did. It gave me a starting point which can only go up from here on out!! Can't wait for the home meet in three weeks because there's nothing like competing at your on "turf" and have all your friends there to support you.

Well we ended up winning both meets, which was good. The Findlay meet was pretty close throughout, and the Urbana meet was not as close. I was a little bummed out about my 1000, I went 10:56 and was hoping so be somewhere around 10:45. My 500 was a little better at 5:16 where I was going for around a 5:13. All in all it wasn't too bad for the first time in those events this season. Everyone else swam well, and we were able to beat Findlay by four points. Brunner's breast and Max's 100 were big points for the team that were much needed. I thought the bus ride was alright, I slept a decent amount and when I was awake Lion King was on. So far the season is going well and hopefully myself, as well as the rest of the team, will be able to drop more time as the season goes on.

Overall, I think Saturday went really well.  It was great to be able to ride in the Alma coach bus as opposed to the lovely vans we usually get to ride in ;)  The drive was a lot more comfortable and enjoyable because we were able to watch movies and also had a lot more room to spread out and sleep if we wanted to.  The meet itself went very well.  It was definitely exciting to see the guys’ team win both meets!  Andrew Brunner's 100 breaststroke was an amazing race, especially with all the pressure he was put under- "Brunner, if you don't win this race, we don't win the meet... just to let you know."  Even with all the pressure, he did awesome and placed first, therefore winning the meet for the guys team!  I also really enjoyed watching Kayleigh and Kirk dive for the first time this season and I thought they did fantastic!  Kayleigh swam in the last relay too and did a pretty good job, if I do say so myself :)  The meet was a lot of fun and I think that everyone performed very well.  It's definitely nice to have a few wins in our record!

So I had my first meet (that I was able to participate in) yesterday, and it was such an awesome experience. I've had two years worth of high school diving under my belt, but they were nothing compared to this. The team is so much more of a family then my high school team. The whole thing was a great experience, from the bus ride to screaming at Max Regan to push himself and win the race. Diving in college is really different than high school. I was not prepared for all of the competition that awaited me here. I dove all voluntaries at the meet, and was 20 points shy of my best at high school for 1-meter 6 dive list. I guess as for t3-meter, I was proud to break 100 for my first time ever diving 3-meter in a meet. All in all I think the meet was a great experience, and I look forward to improving my score as the season goes on.
