HOLLAND, Mich. - The Alma College women's swimming and diving team saw strong performances from several individuals in a 137-108 loss at Hope College Saturday.

"With lifetime and season bests achieved entering the MIAA Championships, I'm optimistic," said head coach Kyle Schack. "Our team continues to respond to feedback in practice and use it in competition and the results can be seen as we continue to get faster throughout the year."

Sarah Anderson (Marshall) went a lifetime best in the 50 free with a time of 26.34 while Nicole McCarthy (Owosso) won the 100 breast by three seconds in a season best time of 1:14.28. Geri Gaskell went a lifetime best of 1:07.19 in the 100 free and proceeded to swim a full second faster in the relay later in the meet.

Elaina Paulson (St. Joseph) and Bailey Buyak (Diamondale) went 1-2 in the three meter diving event and Emily Smith (Adrian) was a dual event winner, coming from behind in both the 500 free and 200 IM with times of 5:57.77 and 2:22.03, respectively.

Alma now looks to the MIAA Championships Feb. 8-10 at Jenison High School in Jenison, Mich. to round out the season with performances they've worked toward throughout this 2006-07 season.

Alma’s “green” residence hall, Wright Hall, was completed in January 2005. The modern, 60-bed apartment-style hall features a number of environmentally friendly features, including geothermal heating and cooling, recycled-content ceiling tiles and carpeting, energy-efficient windows, rooftop solar heating panels, energy-efficient showers and washing machines, and a computerized energy monitoring system.
