Scots Host Albion, Score Well With Strong Races

ALMA, Mich. - Alma College swimming and diving hosted Albion College Saturday as the women lost 162-71 and the men lost 162-55.

On the women's side, Sara Swanton and Lora Trzeciak won their individual events as Swanton swam 11:53.23 in the 1000 free and Trzeciak touched out in 1:01.33 in the 100 free. The women's 400 free relay team of Elaina Paulson, Lora Trzeciak, Ivyrose Hess, Sarah Anderson for first place in the event.

For the men, Spencer Johnson was the story for the day, leading the men's 400 medley relay team to a first place finish with a time of 3:54.13 with Johnson, Trevor McCann, Brent Gostomski and Nate McDonald helping the Scots to a first place finish.

Gostomski had a strong individual performance in the 200 IM, swimming 2:11.73 en route to a victory in the event.

Johnson added a win in the 100 back with a time of 56.46, the only swimmer to crack the minute mark in the event.

 

Alma College’s partnership with the Pine River Superfund Citizen Task Force, an EPA-sanctioned Community Advisory Group (CAG), received the 2008 Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Partnership Award for Campus-Community Collaboration, sponsored by Michigan Campus Compact.The Task Force is recognized as one of the most influential and active CAGs nationally and as having the largest membership of any CAG in the United States.

Chris Hamstra

Coach Hamstra graduated from Hope College in 2004 with a B.A. in Accounting. During his time at Hope, Hamstra was a four year student-athlete, received All-MIAA honors and was also named to the All-American team. Hamstra was also a member of MIAA Championship teams and brings that winning attitude and work ethic to his new position.

After graduation, Hamstra served as an assistant coach for Hope’s Swimming and Diving Program under Dr. John Patnott. Hamstra credits Dr. Patnott with helping him to understand the science of swimming and also the importance of season long work out plans. “As an assistant in his program, I was given the freedom to implement my own workouts into the system, providing me with insight into what it takes to develop season long plans."
