Spencer Johnson Paces Scots in Meet Against Albion
ALMA, Mich. - Alma College swimming and diving lost to visiting Albion College Saturday as the women lost 162-71 and the men lost 162-55. This was the Scots third consecutive meet with multiple athletes posting a lifetime best. "We did an outstanding job supporting the people in the water and we really were able to raise the energy level on the pool deck. The team also responded very well to having the such a large crowd on hand, including President Tracey," said Coach Schack afterward.
On the women's side, Sara Swanton and Lora Trzeciak won their individual events as Swanton swam 11:53.23 in the 1000 free and Trzeciak touched out in 1:01.33 in the 100 free. The women's 400 free relay team of Elaina Paulson, Lora Trzeciak, Ivyrose Hess, Sarah Anderson swam to first place in the event. Sophomore Caylee Coe dropped to within a tenth of a second from her lifetime best in the 200 Freestyle. Coach Schack had this to say about the women: "It wasn't the events we won that got us fired up it was the way were able to share the satisfaction of swimming lifetime bests that became contagious and spread throughout the team."
For the men, Spencer Johnson was the story for the day, leading the men's 400 medley relay team to a first place finish with a time of 3:54.13 with Johnson, Trevor McCann, Brent Gostomski and Nate McDonald helping the Scots to a first place finish. Johnson added a win in the 100 Back with a time of 56.46, the only swimmer to crack the minute mark in the event. "I just tried to execute what I have been working on in training. I have been battling a hamstring injury for over a week now and that forced me to just focus on technique... I guess it payed off," said Johnson. Gostomski had a strong individual performance in the 200 IM, swimming 2:11.73 en route to a victory in the event.
