Swimming & Diving (M/W)

The Weekend In Review After Great Outing at K'zoo

FULL RESULTS

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Alma College swimming and diving traveled to Kalamazoo Saturday where the men lost 113-47. The women lost to the Hornets 129-84.

The Scots swam well on Saturday despite losing to Kalamazoo.

With more energy in their races than the previous week, the Scots lowered several personal best times. On the women’s side, sophomore Sara Swanton swam her best in season 500 while taking out her lifetime best 1000. She would lower her 500 mark later in the meet, finishing second in both the 1000 and 500.

Junior Emily Smith swam her lifetime best breaststroke leg of the medley relay and then went on and dropped five seconds from last week in the 200IM as she won the event.

Freshman Elaina Paulson was a double winner for the Scots on one-meter and three-meter. Sophomore Nikki McCarthy dropped over two seconds in her 100 breaststroke from last week.
The men had their own success at Kalamazoo. Freshman Trevor McCann swam a lifetime best breaststroke relay split and then dropped a half second in the 100 breaststroke from the previous week. Fellow freshman Spencer Johnson turned in his lifetime best 500 free as well. Sophomore Anderson Minnick swam his lifetime best 50 and 100 freestyle and then lowered his 50 later in the 200 free relay.

“I am pleased with our progress this week," said head coach Kyle Schack. "Last week we did not race as well as we thought we were capable. This week we did a much better job of that and can learn more from our mistakes. We have several people swimming faster than they ever have in their life and there is no way to stop these kids from being excited about that. We have a lot to celebrate and a lot to look forward to the rest of this season. It is always great to start a season faster than you finished the last one because you can only imagine how much faster you will be by taper.”

The Scots return to action next Saturday when they host Albion at McClure Natatorium in Alma.
