Scots Fall to Calvin in First MIAA Outing of Season

ALMA, Mich. - The Alma College men's swimming and diving season began as the Scots lost to Calvin College 158-55 Saturday afternoon in McClure Natatorium. With five weeks of training under new coaching - head coach Kyle Schack joined the Scots this fall - the team found the kinks that need to be worked out over the course of the season. Despite the loss, Schack is confident that the team showed strength and that this is a new era in Scot swimming and diving.

Meet highlights include two lifetime best times and 10 unshaved best times. While the team would like to see some fater times, even this early in the year, some adjustments will be made to race plans and discipline in practice entering upcoming events.

The Scots struggled against the Knights for the day. Caylee Coe led the team with her third place finish in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:09.47.

“Finishing races was something we talked about before the meet and now we need to stay focused on being in the race at the beginning and doing a better job of building the front of the race," noted Schack following the races.

Alma returns to action Nov. 4 when it travels to Kalamazoo.

Thirty-four percent of Alma students participate in intercollegiate athletics. Alma College competes at the NCAA Division III level as a member of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association, the oldest existing athletic conference in the nation.
