Alma Slips at Olivet in Make-up Meet

Jim Abrams picked up a win in the 200 breaststroke to lead the Scots in a 157-56 loss at Olivet Friday evening, touching out in 2:30.37.

In the 1000 free Lucas Livingston and Corey White took second and third, respectively, with times of 11:10.73 and 12:59.97. Brent Gostomski was third in the 200 free with a time of 1:52.64 while Nate McDonald bolstered the sprints with a 50 free performance of 24.34, good for second place.

Steve Rose turned in a first-place diving performance in the one-meter with 234.85 points.

In the 100 free, Lucas Livingston was third with a time of 53.88.

The Scots return to action Saturday, Jan. 28 when they host Hope at 1 p.m.

 

Alma College’s teacher preparation program was rated “exemplary” in 2007 following a comprehensive review by the Michigan Department of Education.

Chris Hamstra

Coach Hamstra graduated from Hope College in 2004 with a B.A. in Accounting. During his time at Hope, Hamstra was a four year student-athlete, received All-MIAA honors and was also named to the All-American team. Hamstra was also a member of MIAA Championship teams and brings that winning attitude and work ethic to his new position.

After graduation, Hamstra served as an assistant coach for Hope’s Swimming and Diving Program under Dr. John Patnott. Hamstra credits Dr. Patnott with helping him to understand the science of swimming and also the importance of season long work out plans. “As an assistant in his program, I was given the freedom to implement my own workouts into the system, providing me with insight into what it takes to develop season long plans."
