Scots Defeat St. Mary's, 119-60

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Alma defeated St. Mary's, 119-60 and won nine of 11 events in the first MIAA meet for both teams.

Taking medalist in honors for the Scots were the 200 medley relay team of Devon Anthony, Nicole McCarthy, Rosie Dutka and Lilly Peterson. In the 200 free, Caylee Coe was first in a time of 2:10.80 and Lora Trzeciak was third with a time of 2:16.10.

In the 50 free, Emily Dolan and Peterson took first and second, respectively, with times of 27.72 and 28.77.

Emily Smith took first int he 200 IM, touching out in 2:24.43 whie Sara Swanton was first in the 200 fly in a time of 2:33.32.

Trzeciak was first in the 100 free with a time of 1:00.36 with Peterson finishing third in 1:03.09.

Coe took first place in the 200 back while Dolan was first in the 200 breast.

The Scots wrapped up with a 200 free relay win - Coe, Smith, Dolan and Trzeciak recorded a time of 1:52.37 en route to the team victory.

 

Alma College students report levels of educational experiences and faculty interaction that exceed the national norms by significant amounts, according to the findings of the 2007 National Survey of Student Engagement. In the 2006 study, Alma students reported a level of interaction with faculty that ranked among the top five percent in the nation.

Chris Hamstra

Chris Hamstra

Coach Hamstra graduated from Hope College in 2004 with a B.A. in Accounting. During his time at Hope, Hamstra was a four year student-athlete, received All-MIAA honors and was also named to the All-American team. Hamstra was also a member of MIAA Championship teams and brings that winning attitude and work ethic to his new position.

After graduation, Hamstra served as an assistant coach for Hope’s Swimming and Diving Program under Dr. John Patnott. Hamstra credits Dr. Patnott with helping him to understand the science of swimming and also the importance of season long work out plans. “As an assistant in his program, I was given the freedom to implement my own workouts into the system, providing me with insight into what it takes to develop season long plans."
