Day One Results at DePauw Invitational

GREENCASTLE, Ind. - The Alma College women's swimming and diving team is in ninth place after first day action at the DePauw Invitational.

The 200 free relay team of Emily Dolan (Trenton), Lilly Peterson (Lansing/Lansing Catholic Central), Audrey Sloan (Riverview) and Lora Trzeciak (Allen Park) finished seventh 1:48.47.

In the B-Final of the 200 individual medley, Emily Smith finished third (11th overall) with a time of 2:23.11.

In the B-Final of the 500 free relay, Sloan finished 15th overall with a time of 5:41.51. In the B-Final of the 100 breast, Emily Smith (Adrian) was first (ninth overall) and Nicole McCarthy (Owosso) was 13th overall with times of 1:13.69 and 1:16.47, respectively.

In the 200 fly B-Final, Sara Swanton (Saginaw/Heritage) finished 14th with a tim eof 2:36.35, improving three full seconds from her prelim time.

Rounding out day one action, the 800 free relay team of Swanton, Sloan, Caylee Coe (Owosso) and Trezeciak finished seventh overall while the 400 medley relay team of Coe, Smith, Swanton and Sloan was ninth with a time of 4:31.66.

They return to the water Saturday for the final day of DePauw Invitational action.

 

Spring Term at Alma is a one-month immersion on a single academic topic that offers learning experiences not typically available during the more traditional 15-week fall and winter terms. For example, during Spring Term ‘07 students explored important cultural sites in China, worked to restore a Jewish Holocaust cemetery in Poland, analyzed ethic politics in Scotland, and studied medieval literature in London.

Chris Hamstra

Chris Hamstra

Coach Hamstra graduated from Hope College in 2004 with a B.A. in Accounting. During his time at Hope, Hamstra was a four year student-athlete, received All-MIAA honors and was also named to the All-American team. Hamstra was also a member of MIAA Championship teams and brings that winning attitude and work ethic to his new position.

After graduation, Hamstra served as an assistant coach for Hope’s Swimming and Diving Program under Dr. John Patnott. Hamstra credits Dr. Patnott with helping him to understand the science of swimming and also the importance of season long work out plans. “As an assistant in his program, I was given the freedom to implement my own workouts into the system, providing me with insight into what it takes to develop season long plans."
