Alma Drops Dual Meet to Olivet

OLIVET, Mich. - The Alma College swimming and diving team traveled to Olivet Friday (Jan. 28) and fell to the Comets, 154-58.  

The 400 medley relay team of Nick Dunckle (Lansing/Everett), Jim Abrams (Manistique), Brent Gostomski (Trenton) and Erik Johnson (Atlantic Mine/Houghton) finished second with a time of 3:53.56.

In the 50 free, Tony Rosenblum (Huntington Woods/Berkley) touched the wall in 24.13, good for third place in the event. Gostomski took second in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:09.64 and in the 100 free, he turned in a second place finish in a time of 50.87. The 400 freestyle relay team of Abrams, Luke Livingston (Trenton), Nate McDonald (Oscoda) and Ben McDonald (Howell) took top honors in the event with a time of 3:36.42.


 

Alma College’s teacher preparation program was rated “exemplary” in 2007 following a comprehensive review by the Michigan Department of Education.

Chris Hamstra

Coach Hamstra graduated from Hope College in 2004 with a B.A. in Accounting. During his time at Hope, Hamstra was a four year student-athlete, received All-MIAA honors and was also named to the All-American team. Hamstra was also a member of MIAA Championship teams and brings that winning attitude and work ethic to his new position.

After graduation, Hamstra served as an assistant coach for Hope’s Swimming and Diving Program under Dr. John Patnott. Hamstra credits Dr. Patnott with helping him to understand the science of swimming and also the importance of season long work out plans. “As an assistant in his program, I was given the freedom to implement my own workouts into the system, providing me with insight into what it takes to develop season long plans."
