Scots Lose Tri-Meet With Hillsdale, Saint Mary’s

HILLSDALE, Mich. - Alma College women's swimming and diving suffered setbacks against both Hillsdale (64-39) and Saint Mary’s (51-49) Saturday (Jan. 15), their first compeititon since returning from the annual Florida training trip earlier this month.

Stephanie Druskinis (Wyandotte/Roosevelt) was the Scots' sole first-place finisher, taking the 100 freestyle with a time of 55.19. The 200 medley relay team of Emily Dolan (Trenton), Jaci Wilkie (Monroe), Erin Wicker (West Bloomfield/Seaholm) and Kelly Marks (Berkley) finished second to Hillsdale while Brianne Hauser (Monroe) placed third in the 1,000 free with a time of 11:26.86 and finished third in the 100 fly with a time of 1:06.33. Druskinis finished second in the 200 free with a time of 2:03.95 while Emily Smith (Clayton/Adrian) took third place honors in the 200 individual medley (2:25.34). Dolan took third in the 100 back (1:09.65) while Smith and Wilkie finished second and third, respectively, in the 100 breast.

The 200 freestyle relay team of Druskinis, Kristin Kuczera (Kentwood/East Kentwood), Hauser and Smith finished the event second with a time of 1:49.12.

In one-meter diving action, Ivyrose Hess (Grand Rapids/Central) took first place with 177.95 points.  

Alma returns to the pool Jan. 22 at Olivet.

 

Alma College’s teacher preparation program was rated “exemplary” in 2007 following a comprehensive review by the Michigan Department of Education.

Chris Hamstra

Coach Hamstra graduated from Hope College in 2004 with a B.A. in Accounting. During his time at Hope, Hamstra was a four year student-athlete, received All-MIAA honors and was also named to the All-American team. Hamstra was also a member of MIAA Championship teams and brings that winning attitude and work ethic to his new position.

After graduation, Hamstra served as an assistant coach for Hope’s Swimming and Diving Program under Dr. John Patnott. Hamstra credits Dr. Patnott with helping him to understand the science of swimming and also the importance of season long work out plans. “As an assistant in his program, I was given the freedom to implement my own workouts into the system, providing me with insight into what it takes to develop season long plans."
