Druskinis Leads Scots With Wins in 100 and 200 Free

ALMA, Mich. - Alma College swimming and diving dropped both meets Saturday (Nov. 6) in Alma. The men's team lost to Albion, 131-61 to fall to 0-2 on the season while the women's team lost 134-102, also dropping to 0-2 on the year.

For Alma, the women's 400 medley relay team of Emily Dolan (Trenton), Emily Smith (Clayton/Adrian), Brianne Hauser (Monroe) and Kristin Kuczera (Kentwood/East Kentwood) won handily, 4:27.17. Senior Stephanie Druskinis (Wyandotte/Roosevelt) won the 200 free in a time of 2:03.36 and finished second in the 50 free, touching the wall in :26.47. She also took first place honors in the 100 free with her time of :57.03. In the 200 fly, Hauser took the top spot, finishing the event in a time of 2:28.32.

On the men's side, junior Erik Johnson (Atlantic Mine/Houghton) took second in the 100 free in a time of :53.22. Lucas Livingston (Trenton) was second in the 1,000 free with a time of 11:15.06 and finished second in the 500 free, touching out in 5:27.84.

The Scots next travel to Kalamazoo to face the Hornets Nov. 20.

Chris Hamstra

Coach Hamstra graduated from Hope College in 2004 with a B.A. in Accounting. During his time at Hope, Hamstra was a four year student-athlete, received All-MIAA honors and was also named to the All-American team. Hamstra was also a member of MIAA Championship teams and brings that winning attitude and work ethic to his new position.

After graduation, Hamstra served as an assistant coach for Hope’s Swimming and Diving Program under Dr. John Patnott. Hamstra credits Dr. Patnott with helping him to understand the science of swimming and also the importance of season long work out plans. “As an assistant in his program, I was given the freedom to implement my own workouts into the system, providing me with insight into what it takes to develop season long plans."
