ALMA SOFTBALL FINISHES THE DAY STRONG WITH A TIGHT WIN OVER OHIO WESLEYAN 6-4

The Scots Softball team finished the doubleheader against Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday by winning the second game 6-4. The win improved the Alma record to 9-6 on the season.

Ohio Wesleyan started out strong with two runs in the top of the first, but this game proved to be different than the first game of the day.  So. CF Kelly Koenigsknecht (Fowler,MI/Fowler) gave the Scots a strong starte, when she singled to shortstop and stole second.  Jr. 1F Kelsey Rightenburg (Lexington, MI/Croswell-Lexington) hit Koenigsknecht in for the Alma’s first run of the game.  The Scots finished out the inning with three runs to take the lead, 3-2.  In the top of the third inning, Ohio Wesleyan tied it up 3-3, but the Scots would not let Ohio Wesleyan keep the game tied for long.  In the bottom of the third, Jr. 2B Kasey Miller (Grand Ledge, MI/Grand Ledge) doubled to left field and  Fr.1B Emily Ross (Buchanan, MI/Buchanan) hit a two-run home run, giving the Scots a 5-3 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Rightenburg walked and stole second, and scored a run for Alma, pushing the Scots’ lead to 6-3.  Ohio Wesleyan was unable to catch up, scoring their fourth and final run in the top of the sixth, falling to the Scots 6-4.

Rightenburg had a strong performance for the Scots today with two hits on three at bats, resulting in two runs and one run batted in.  Ross also contributed to the Scots’ success with one run and one hit in two at bats.

The Scots take on Bluffton College on Tuesday March 24, at Scots Park, beginning at 3:30 pm.
