SCOTS' SOFTBALL DROPS FIRST GAME TO OHIO WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY

The Alma Scots Softball team lost the first game of their doubleheader against Ohio Wesleyan University, 7-0 on Saturday.  The loss dropped Alma to 8-6 on the season.

The game was scoreless until the top of the fifth inning, when Ohio Wesleyan scored two runs, pulling ahead 2-0.  The Scots were unable to stop their rhythm, and Ohio Wesleyan picked up five more runs in the top of the sixth, as they cushioned their lead to 7-0.

Jr. RF Sarah Johnson (Portland, MI /Portland) led the Scots with two hits on three at bats.  So. P Tara Leddy (Saginaw, MI/ Swan Valley) pitched six innings for the Scots, notching seven strikeouts and giving up seven runs.  Fr. P Erin Pintek  (Flushing, MI/ Flushing) finished out the game for Alma, facing the minimum of three batters and had two strikeouts.

Dennis Griffin

Denny Griffin is heading into his 27th year at Alma College and his 20th at the helm of the Scots softball program. He moved into the head softball coaching position in 1989 after two years as assistant coach. His teams have never fallen lower than third place in conference standings and 12 of his last 14 teams have qualified for the NCAA Tournament.

In addition to his softball duties, Griffin is the program director for the Athletic Training Education Program. He teaches first aid/CPR and sports medicine classes in the Exercise and Health Science Department.
