SCOTS SOFTBALL DROPS GAME VERSUS DAVENPORT IN ORLANDO

The Alma College softball team (3-4) split a pair of games in Orlando on Thursday by dropping the opener to Davenport University (MI), 8-3 and rebounded by beating Concordia College-Moorhead (MN) by a score of 13-1.

Against Davenport Fr. Erin Pintek (Flushing, MI/Flushing) (1-2) took the loss, going six innings, while giving up only three earned runs on eight hits and striking out four. The Scots struck first in the second inning as Jr. Kelsey Rightenburg (Lexington, MI/Croswell-Lexington) laced a triple to centerfield with two outs and So. Kelly Koenigsknecht (Fowler, MI/Fowler) knocked her home with a single to right.

The Scots’ bats were silenced most of the game however, as Davenport built a seven-run lead. In the seventh, Alma put on their rally caps by scoring two runs on a RBI single by Jr. Sarah Johnson (Portland, MI/Portland) and a fielder’s choice by Jr. Houston Verbeck (Flint, MI/Kearsley). Davenport was able to get the next two Alma hitters to ground out to end the game.
