SCOTS SOFTBALL DROPS A TWIN-BILL ECKERD COLLEGE

On Wednesday, Alma dropped a twin-bill to Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Fl. By score of 10-1 and 5-0. So. Tara Leddy (Saginaw, MI/Swan Valley) took her second loss of the season.

The Scots scored their only run by drawing back to back walks to Fales and Verbeck, with Johnson knocking in Fales with a single to leftfield. In the night cap, Grys went the distance, giving up five runs on eight hits. Eckerd limited the Scots to four hits in the game.

 

Thirty-four percent of Alma students participate in intercollegiate athletics. Alma College competes at the NCAA Division III level as a member of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association, the oldest existing athletic conference in the nation.

Dennis Griffin

Denny Griffin is heading into his 27th year at Alma College and his 20th at the helm of the Scots softball program. He moved into the head softball coaching position in 1989 after two years as assistant coach. His teams have never fallen lower than third place in conference standings and 12 of his last 14 teams have qualified for the NCAA Tournament.

In addition to his softball duties, Griffin is the program director for the Athletic Training Education Program. He teaches first aid/CPR and sports medicine classes in the Exercise and Health Science Department.
