SOFTBALL: Alma Receives At-Large Bid to NCAA Regionals

After losing in the conference tournament, the Alma College Softball Team needed the DIII Selection Committee's help to get into the NCAA Championship Tournament- and this morning, that help came in the form of an At-Large bid that recognized the outstanding season the Scots had put together.

The Maroon and Cream were placed as the seventh seed in the Rock Island, Illinois regional that represents the 5th overall seed in the NCAA Tournament. Play will begin  on May 8th, as the Scots will face off against the #2 seed Wartburg College (29-6).

Dennis Griffin

Dennis Griffin

Denny Griffin is heading into his 26th year at Alma College and his 20th at the helm of the Scots softball program. He moved into the head softball coaching position in 1989 after two years as assistant coach. His teams have never fallen lower than third place in conference standings and 12 of his last 14 teams have qualified for the NCAA Tournament.

In addition to his softball duties, Griffin is the program director for the Athletic Training Education Program. He teaches first aid/CPR and sports medicine classes in the Exercise and Health Science Department.
